A History of Us

It goes like this--

Our planet is in a solar system, within a galaxy, inside a local group that is being drawn to another local group that consists of hundreds of billions of other local groups. The why is unknown, but the how is being unraveled--

Our particular planet was created approximately 4.6 billion years ago. Life began underwater - more specifically when a multi cellular organism learned to make copies of itself. During a time known as the Cambrian Explosion, an abundance of life flourished in oceans approximately 590 million years ago.

About 38 million years ago, the first apelike beings appeared in the Oligocene period. The first suspected human-like ape appeared in the Miocene period, which extends from 5-25 million years.

The first hominids - bipedal primates - appeared in the Pliocene period. The earliest known is Australopithecus - the southern ape - that dates back 4 million years.

A specific group of Australopithecus is hypothesized to have given rise to Homo habilis. This dates back 2 million years in the Pleistocene period. From there came Homo erectus - Java man, Beijing man - 1.5 million years ago, and then came us, Homo sapiens.

Although Evolution is still regarded as a theory, archeological findings, scientific testing, and everyday discoveries give it stellar credibility. We don’t know why we were created, but we can learn how. Maybe after we learn how, we’ll start to understand the why--
